Luis Figueroa

Caracas, 1993

Luis Figueroa is a visual artist who holds a Bachelor's degree in the Interdisciplinary Fine Arts program from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and a Master's degree in Visual Arts from Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. His work proposes a dialectic between being and space, seeking to understand reality through the construction of scenarios where different currents converge. In this way, he creates pieces that integrate a plurality of contexts and, supported by an exploration of chromatics, seek to reconcile a subjective aesthetic experience adhering to an autonomy and spirit characteristic of an imagined "place".

Figueroa constantly uses figurative elements as they exist within a continuum of color that weaves together the various dimensions of his paintings. The figures in his work are active agents that give rise to the specific decisions that shape each painting. His work explores both the notions of expectation and surprise, as they evoke a constant negotiation between the artist's intention and the unpredictable nature of painting as medium.

Figueroa has exhibited his work in both Mexico and Canada in collective projects such as Whereabouts (Halifax, 2014), Systems of Painting (Halifax, 2015), Fragments of Reality (Halifax, 2015), Art of Leverage (Toronto, 2016), Ritual/Virtual (Halifax, 2016), Deadline 7 (Monterrey, 2020), FAMA (Monterrey, 2020), Feria FAIN (Monterrey, 2021), Comerse el ojo, para metabolizar la pintura (CDMX, 2021) y CLAVO MOVIMIENTO (CDMX, 2021), as well as individual exhibitions such as Lightworks (Halifax, 2015), Piedra sus sueños serán (Monterrey, 2021), and Residencia Temporal (Monterrey, 2023). Currently, he resides in Monterrey, Nuevo León.
